Pack 88 had its Fall Campout during the weekend of October 20-21 at the
Dongping National Forest Park on Chongming Island, Shanghai. A beautiful spot in the center of the Yangtze River, just north of the city. A total of 256 people participated in this year's camp, including 104 Scouts plus their families. Blessed with beautiful weather (albeit a cold evening), the Scouts participated in setting up camp, several Den meetings taking advantage of the natural surroundings, a fantastic BBQ dinner, campfire with skits and marshmallow roast. The following morning was spent enjoying gourmet camp breakfasts, taking down camp, and engaging in the Scout tradition of "Leave No Trace".
Many thanks to all the Scout leaders and volunteers that made this year's camp a success!

Staging at Dongping Park
The pack arrived at Dongping Park Gate 2 after a two-hour trip from Concordia School. Five buses transported all the Scouts and gear to the park (with some campers driving directly to the park). The park's "Thomas Tank Engine" trolley took the campers and gear to the campsite, after a roundabout trip through the park.
Camp Set-up and Opening CeremoniesAfter reaching the campsite in the northwest corner of the park, Scouts worked to set up the tents with help from parents and Scout leaders. The Pack 88 Fall Camp was officially opened with a proper flag ceremony.
After the opening ceremonies, each Den -- from Tiger through Arrow of Light -- had the opportunity to have their own meetings, and complete some of the tasks necessary to achieve their next rank. The meetings were led by their dedicated Den leaders with support from parents. As such, the Scouts both got to enjoy the outdoors as well as learn some of the key knowledge needed to become an advanced Scout.
Meanwhile, parents and volunteers prepared a barbeque feast featuring German sausages.
Campfire and Scout SkitsAfter the feast, the Pack gathered around the campfire with each den performing a skit or song for the crowd. Robin Hood even made an appearance, having stolen M&M's back from the evil Sheriff of Nottingham, returning them to the Scouts. Finally, Scouts were invited to roast marshmallows over the campfire before turning in after an exiting day at camp.
